Hormone Health
One minute you’re in your early 30s – full of energy and loving life, the next minute you’re over 40 and your energy levels are non-existent, your sleep is shot, and you feel that age has suddenly snuck up on you.
This is all very common. We’ve all heard of the menopause, but did you know that it actually refers to a time when you haven’t had a single period for 12 months. But the menopause doesn’t happen overnight, your hormones start to change from around early 40s (for some women this can start late 30s).
Are you experiencing any of the following?
Changes to your menstrual cycle
Disturbed sleep
Brain fog
Hormonal headaches
Mood swings
Low confidence
Poor memory
Crippling anxiety
Low libido
Hot flushes
If you are over 40 and your answer is yes, then it is likely that you are going through the perimenopause.
The perimenopause can last from anywhere between 8 and 10 years. During this time, progesterone levels fall as you stop ovulating as regularly. Oestrogen is also likely to be decreasing, but at a slower rate, which can lead to oestrogen dominance, and this can lead to many of the symptoms above.
But other hormones are affected too. The stress hormone cortisol can also increase, leading to poor sleep and weight gain. Your thyroid may come under pressure, and low levels of thyroid hormones can result in changes in mood, weight gain, constipation and a sluggish feeling.
All of your hormones work in synergy, so when one or more become unbalanced, this can have an effect on all the others too.
There can be many factors that can contribute to or exacerbate hormonal imbalances, but you don’t just have to put up with feeling dreadful.
I will work with you to discover and address the root cause of your symptoms.
